Café Femenino Coffee Project
The Café Femenino Coffee Project is a social program for women coffee producers - many of whom are trapped in a cycle of abuse and poverty - to achieve empowerment, build social and support networks, and earn incomes through harvesting and producing their own special, high quality organic coffee, Café Femenino.
History: Launched in 2004, the Café Femenino Coffee Project originated in Peru with more than 460 women coffee growers from 50 communities. These women united to achieve independence and equality through the production and sale of their own coffee, Café Femenino. The coffee is imported to the United States, Canada and Australia exclusively by the Organic Products Trading Company. and distributed by more than 80 roasters. Today, the project is active in Bolivia, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico and Peru involving over 1500 women.
Mission: The project exists to enhance and improve the quality of life for women coffee producers and their families in rural coffee communities around the world.
Our Café Femenino distributor is Vienna Coffee Company located in Maryville, Tennessee. VCC has selected Haven House as their local women's organization they are supporting with this project. VCC buys fairly priced cofee from the women farms in Mexico and Peru. Then after roasting, a portion of the coffee sales go directly to aid the women at Haven House. Disenfranchised women are being helped on all ends of the project.
