The idea of avoiding meat in the diet has evolved significantly in our modern culture.

During the last few decades those that practice vegetarianism have gone from being perceived as somewhat outside of the norm to widespread acceptance. Many restaurants offer complete vegetarians sections in their menus and most savvy chefs are perfectly willing to prepare dishes to please the non-meat eater.

Individual motivations can range from religious, ethical, nutritional and health reasons to simply personal taste and choice. There are also different types of vegetarians. Vegans avoid all animal-related foods including dairy products and eggs. Traditional vegetarians eat diary products and eggs but no meat or fish or any animal products. There are many other individuals who do not consume meat, but will still enjoy seafood. Then there are those that limit their intake to only consuming meat occasionally.
