“Amaretti” is the Italian name for macaroons, and it means “little” and “bitter”, in reference to their small size and to the bitterness of the almonds.These small, domed shaped cookies originated in Venice, Italy during the Renaissance period and they became a popular cookie produced all over Italy. These “Amaretti di Nanni” are a real home-made product. Traditionally served with a sweet dessert wine or liqueur, but they are also wonderful with a bowl of ice cream or with a cup of a good coffee.
