Tomato-Pearl Onion Chutney

Chutneys are wonderfully versatile.  This recipe is really eye catching with the whole pearl onions.

  • 1 large Yellow Onion, minced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 Tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil *
  • 5 Tomatoes, diced
  • 1 Tablespoon Fresh Ginger, minced
  • 2 Tablespoons Tomato Paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dry Black Mustard *

  • 2 Tablespoons Honey Vinegar *

  • 1/2 teaspoon Sea Salt with Herb of Provence *

  • 1/4 cup Raisins
  • 2 Tablespoons Parsley, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh Oregano, minced
  • 10 ounces Pearl Onions, peeled


  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, sautè yellow onion and garlic in olive oil for 5 minutes.
  2. Add tomatoes, ginger, tomato paste, dry mustard, vinegar, salt, honey, "peperoncino" flakes, raisins, parsley and oregano.  Cook for 20 minutes.
  3. Add pearl onions and cook for 25 minutes more.  Cool slightly before serving.
