A Kugelhopf "Surprise" is simpla a loaf of Kugelhopf that has been sliced crosswise and spread with filling and then reassembled. Makes a great party dish.

- 8 ounces Cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 pint Sour cream
- 3 Cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Leaf thyme *
- 1 tablespoon Dill
- 1 tablespoon Tarragon *
- 1 teaspoon Black pepper *
- Juice of half a lemon
- 8 ounces Prosciutto, sliced very thin
Instructions
- Take a thin slice off the top of the kugelhopf, complete with its walnuts, and set it aside.
- Slice the rest of the loaf horizontally into 16 thin slices, leaving a base 3/4 inch thick.
- Pair up the slices in the order in which they were cut.
- Combine cream cheese, sour cream and all other ingredients except prosciutto.
- Mix well and spread a thin layer on one of each pair of slices.
- Top with some prosciutto, spread a little more cheese on top and then sandwich with its partner.
- You should have 8 "sandwiches".
- Put the reserved base on a basket or other serving piece.
- One by one, starting with the biggest, put each "sandwich" on a cutting board and cut evenly into 8 or 16 wedges, depending on size desired.
- Carefully slide the cut "sandwich" off the cutting board onto the base.
- Continue cutting the "sandwiches" into wedges and buiding up the layers until you have rebuilt the kugelhopf.
- Place crown on top and serve or cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until about an hour before serving.
