Salsa Verde

Green and mean (not really) adjust the peppers to your taste.

Ingredients

Items indicated with an astrisk (*) available for purchase in the Avanti Savoia store.

  • 1 1/2 pounds Tomatillos
  • 1/2 White onion
  • 4 Serrano peppers
  • 3 Cloves garlic
  • 1/2 Bunch cilantro
  • 3/4 teaspoon Oregano *
  • Salt to taste *

Instructions

  1. Peel tomatillos and wash thoroughly.
  2. Cover tomatillos with water in a large saucepan and simmer about 5 to 10 minutes.
  3. Allow to cool about 20 minutes.
  4. Place everything in a blender and blend until smooth, adding some cooking liquid if necessary.
  5. If using a food processor, process onion, peppers, garlic and cilantro thoroughly.
  6. Then add tomatillos and seasonings and process again.
