Cafe Brulot

Knock out presentation of old New Orleans delight.


Items indicated with an astrisk (*) available for purchase in the Avanti Savoia store.

  • 4 sticks Cinnamon* *
  • 6 whole Cloves* *
  • Peel of 1 Orange (thinly cut)
  • 6 tablets of Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Orange Curacao Liqueur
  • 1/2 cup Brandy
  • 3 1/2 cups Rich, Hot Black Coffee* *


  1. Combine cinnamon, cloves, orange peel, sugar tablets, orange liqueur and brandy in a large covered bowl or chafing dish and allow the mixture to muddle one hour.
  2. To serve, prepare the 3 1/2 cups of hot coffee and set aside.
  3. Strain brandy into saucepan and gently warm and pour back into serving bowl.  Carefully ignite the brandy.  Stir slightly and then slowly add coffee.  Try not to extinquish fire.
  4. When fire does go out, ladle the cafe brulot into demitasse or brulot cups and top with a dollop of whipped cream if desired.
